What is Cosmos?
Streamlining blockchain transactions is what Cosmos (ATOM) aims for, being an open-source tool that creates a network of cryptocurrency networks. It is a decentralized ecosystem of various blockchains interacting together. This Internet of Blockchains (IoB) model allows interoperability and currency exchanges. The Cosmos mainnet was developed by Tendermint Inc. in March 2019. Its vision is to help developers build blockchains that can communicate with other blockchains in a decentralized way. Cosmos offers tools that allow users to customize, secure, scale, and interoperate blockchain apps efficiently. ATOM is the network's proprietary staking coin that is used to maintain interoperability between different zones in the network. This token can be spent, sent, staked, or held into the account, giving the owner power to vote on changes and upgrades on the network. Every vote is proportional to the ATOM a participant staked. With the Cosmos ecosystem growing, this token could become more valuable as more blockchains are established within the network. The protocol has not set a limit on the token supply but instead adjusts the number of tokens based on the number of ATOM coins being staked. Currently, the circulating supply is at 210.7 million ATOM with a market cap of $2.19 billion, according to CoinMarketCap.
