What is Dogecoin?
Dogecoin is an open-source cryptocurrency. It is named Doge as it has the logo of a Japanese dog which was used as a meme on social media. The main use of Dogecoin was in social media where it started. Dogecoin is used as a tipping method where social media users tip other accounts for their content. Also, users trade items on social media or even outside social media using Dogecoin.
How does DOGE work?
Dogecoin is a replication of Bitcoin where it uses the same technology but it has a different blockchain created over the Ethereum blockchain. It uses mining parameters similar to that of Litecoin with less block validation time.
Dogecoin is a bi-product of Litecoin where miners who create and validate blocks for Litecoin will be creating Dogecoin at the same time as they work on the same blockchain. Further, Dogecoin has an unlimited supply (I.e. there is no limit to the number of Doge coins that can be available in the market).
History of Dogecoin
The coin was created by Jackson Palmer and Billy Markus. Palmer created the coin in 2013 for sarcasm over Bitcoin which started its hype at that time. When people took it seriously, he partnered with Markus (a software developer) and created the Dogecoin as it is known today.
