What is Numeraire ?

The Numeraire network is a hedge fund utilizing crowdsourcing to predict trading algorithms via a weekly tournament. Prediction models submitted by data scientists are rewarded based on the accuracy and number of Numeraire tokens or NMR they put at stake for the competition. NMR is the native crypto of this network, required to conduct payments, as a stake on model outcomes, and as a reward for tournament participants. This digital asset is based on the ERC20 standard and can be sold or bought for other digital currencies or fiat money. The Numerai tournament is a weekly event wherein data scientists make market predictions. Participants staking NMR to an accurate forecast earn newly minted tokens. If they place wrongly, the staked Numeraire will be burned or destroyed. Despite the competition happening every week, the payout and scoring for such predictions occur only every four weeks. The network also introduced Numerai Signals, wherein participants can upload predictions on the stock market to earn NMR. The continuous cycle of minting and burning NMRs happen thanks to these events. However, the software has set a finite number of tokens at 21 million NMR. As of writing, the circulating supply is at 4.99 million Numeraire tokens and a market cap of about $170.6 million, according to CoinMarketCap.
